The Challenge
Bringing a deeply rooted Bombay subculture to a new market. Parsi–Irani cafés are rich in nostalgia, personality, and ritual but largely unfamiliar to a global audience like Dubai.
The challenge was to:
-Translate cultural depth without making it niche
-Balance nostalgia with modern relevance
-Build not just a restaurant, but a living, breathing brand

Irani cafés have long been an integral part of Bombay’s cultural and culinary fabric. These establishments were defined not only by their cuisine, but by the environment they cultivated — informal, familiar, and deeply human. The host played a central role in shaping this experience, creating spaces built on routine, conversation, and continuity.

The solution was to embed that presence directly into the identity. This took form in Farood Batliwala — not as a mascot, but as a representation of the host figure intrinsic to Parsi–Irani café culture. His presence informs how the brand speaks, appears, and interacts. Through this approach, Batliwala & Co. extends the ethos of Bombay’s Parsi–Irani cafés into Dubai — preserving not only the cuisine, but the hospitality and cultural continuity that define it.
